Police conducted a safety check after discovering a suspicious package in North Geelong on Friday, May 24.

Officers responded to reports of the package found on a footpath behind a bus stop on Thompson Road just before 2 p.m.

The Bomb Response Unit attended the scene, and the surrounding area was cordoned off as a precaution.

The area and the device were later deemed safe.

Detectives from the Geelong Crime Investigation Unit will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
