The City is on the lookout for welcoming and friendly community members eager to join as tourism volunteers.

Geelong and Bellarine Visitor Information Services, staffed by knowledgeable volunteers, serve as the primary touchpoint for visitors in our region.

Positioned at City Hall and The Carousel, the Geelong Visitor Information Centre is where volunteers happily field inquiries, provide directions, and distribute maps and brochures.

Recognized for their significant role in boosting visitation to Greater Geelong, the team secured the gold award in the ‘Outstanding Contribution by Volunteers’ category at the November 2023 Victorian Tourism Awards.

Comprising over 60 dedicated volunteers, the team ensures that tourists have a delightful experience and fully explore the offerings of our region.

Mayor Trent Sullivan expressed the team’s interest in welcoming community members who wish to connect with others and actively promote Geelong and The Bellarine.

Volunteering not only contributes immensely to the City and the community but also brings social benefits to those involved, offering an opportunity to give back to the community.

Mayor Sullivan emphasized that volunteers are proud locals enthusiastic about showcasing Geelong and the region to visitors.

If you have an interest in people and a passion for promoting Geelong and The Bellarine, volunteering with the team could be the perfect fit.

Last year, five dedicated Visitor Information Services volunteers – Sandra Lovell, Ian Shimmen, Jenny Monaghan, Sonja Zolfel, and Des Harris – celebrated an incredible milestone, each reaching 30 years of service.

Sandra Lovell, a lifelong resident of Geelong, shared her motivation for volunteering, expressing her love for sharing the city’s highlights with visitors.

Tracy Carter, Executive Director Tourism – Greater Geelong & The Bellarine, highlighted the crucial role of volunteers as the initial point of contact for many tourists.

By providing current information on dining, accommodation, and attractions, volunteers serve as invaluable ambassadors, enhancing the Visitor Economy and maintaining our region’s status as a world-class destination.
