A 43-year-old woman named Tania has tragically died in hospital following an hit-and-run incident in Corio on 11 August.

Emergency services responded to a call around 6:45 a.m.

At the intersection of Plantation Road and Washington Street, where a woman had reportedly been struck by a car.

The vehicle and driver involved are alleged to have fled the scene before police arrived.

Tania, a resident of Corio, was taken to The Royal Melbourne Hospital but sadly passed away just after 6 p.m. last night.

In a heartfelt statement, Tania’s family expressed their profound grief, saying, “Words cannot express the devastation we feel as a family.

Tania was friendly to everyone and had so much heart.

She was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and aunt.

There is no way to describe the emotions we are experiencing at this time, and we ask the public to respect our privacy while the investigation continues.

We are extremely thankful to the members of the public, police, paramedics, and emergency services who did all they could for Tania.

A special thanks to the wonderful and compassionate ICU staff at the Royal Melbourne Hospital for caring for Tania in her final days.

We are so proud that Tania’s last gift was to donate her organs so that others can continue to live their lives.”

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit have charged an 18-year-old man from Corio with dangerous driving causing serious injury, careless driving, failing to stop, failing to render assistance, and driving while suspended.

The charges will now be upgraded to dangerous driving causing death.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on 3 December.
